Titles by Author of the Month, Christina Henry.

Christina Henry is an American horror fantasy author, known for her national bestselling Black Wings series, and the Chronicles of Alice, the first book of which, Alice (2015), was selected as one of Amazon's Best Books of the Year in Science Fiction and Fantasy, and was also a Goodreads Choice Award nominee for the horror genre. Born Tina Raffaele, Henry had aspirations to become an author from a very young age, and was herself an avid reader, commenting that "she spent most of her time living inside books". Her first book, Black Wings, was published in 2010 under the pseudonym of Christina Henry, which she created by combining her own name (Tina) with her husband and son's names (Chris and Henry respectively). When she isn't writing chilling twists on well-known children's stories or coming up with creepy tales of her own, Henry enjoys reading, watching zombie movies, and long-distance running. Her latest book, Horseman was published in September 2021, and her new original novel Near the Bone will be coming out in January 2022.

Book Review

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes.

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes.

From the author of Me Before You and set in depression-era America this is a breath-taking story of five extraordinary women and their remarkable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond.

Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally oppressive, especially living alongside her domineering father-in-law.

So when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt's new travelling library, Alice joins enthusiastically.

The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman. They are joined by three other women who become known as the Packhorse Librarians of Kentucky.

The Giver of Stars is a funny, heart-breaking and gripping tale of women's friendship, of true love, and of what happens when we strive to live an alternative life than the one dictated by society.
