Member of the Senedd for Delyn, Hannah Blythyn, has been honoured for her work promoting LGBTQ+ equality in the Senedd at a star-studded ceremony in London.

The event held last week, on December 3, which named 100 'trailblazers' was organised by Attitude magazine, the UK and Europe's best-selling LGBTQ magazine.

Ms Blythyn was included on the trailblazers list alongside the likes of Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley and RuPaul's Drag Race star Victoria Scone among others at the event. The person of the year was Australian footballer Josh Cavallo, who is the world's only openly gay footballer playing at the highest level of the game and saw his Instagram following leap from 10,000 to 150,000 after coming out publicly.

Hannah Blythyn MS said: "It was an honour to have been selected in the 'politics' category by the organisers of the award ceremony and to be in such illustrious company. There were people there from all walks of life – from the worlds of acting and the media to industry and computing.

"I was contacted by Attitude magazine about the award out of the blue. I have championed LGBTQ+ rights both before and since being elected to represent Delyn in the Senedd in 2016, and was one of the first out Members of the Senedd, but I never expected to be recognised along with such household names.

"I believe I am the first MS to have been honoured in this way – but I am sure I will not be the last. We have come such a long way but of course there is still much more to do to. I think anything we can do as politicians to show that our Welsh Parliament is a diverse place that reflects Wales today is to be welcomed so I thank the organisers of the award for this honour."
