A church faces closure after Storm Arwen's path of destruction ripped through Wrexham.

Working with the church, Councillor Paul Rogers has organised an event to discuss the future of the St Mary's with residents and secure if for future generations.

This Saturday, December 4, a drop in event is being held between 11am and 3pm at the church, in Brymbo.

The church roof was badly damaged in the storm last weekend and emergency repairs are now being carried out to make the building safe.

Councillor Paul Rogers said: "Residents may be aware that the church is at risk of closure.

"The damage caused church during the storm over the weekend means that there is a desperate need to raise funds to cover ongoing maintenance and running costs or it will close."

"There is a real risk that if the church closes and the roof deteriorates then there is a chance that residents may not be able to visit the churchyard."

"This is an iconic building on this gateway to our community and it cannot be allowed to fall into disrepair."

"Many residents have connections with the church with many also having loved ones within the churchyard and I want to do everything I can to save St Mary's Church."

During the drop in session there will be a chance for residents to pledge how they can help. This could include making a small donation, supporting a fundraising event or volunteering.

Views are also being sought on how the church building can better serve the community.
