Wrexham residents have been assured that plans are in place to maintain road safety if snow hits this winter.

With the recent weather warnings and forecasts predicting snow, Wrexham Council believe they are prepared to tackle the winter weather head on.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “In Wrexham we have tried and tested winter service plans which are reviewed annually.

"We have a very well maintained fleet of gritters and experienced drivers who make sure our gritting routes are kept as safe as possible. Our officers are updated of expected weather conditions regularly and make decisions based on those updates.

"We are stocked with 7,500 tonnes of grit which is topped up each time we grit the roads.

"We also have plans in place to cover extended periods of severe weather which includes plans to grit housing estates (where it’s safe to do so) before bin collections and to keep areas such as sheltered accommodation and school routes as clear and as safe as possible."

He added: "I am pleased that this year we have been recognised by The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) and short listed for our winter service which is really excellent, members and the public really appreciate the work they do and fair play to our staff who go out at all times of the day and night to keep us safe.

"If you want to know if the gritters are going out you can keep an eye on our Twitter account.

"When very poor weather is expected or we are experiencing a particularly long bout of cold, freezing weather we’ll keep you updated about where to find information including bin collections and school closures on our website.

"All residents are asked to keep an eye on weather conditions before they venture out and to make sure they are well prepared should they run into any difficulties.”
