FROM the sleet and snow of Bala in November to Aberystwyth in December.

It's likely to be another chilly Friday as Connah's Quay Nomads aim to strengthen their position in the top-six of the Cymru Premier League.

The last few weeks have been hugely positive for one-the-up Nomads, who won 4-1 at Bala Town last time out to book their berth in the final of the Welsh League Cup.

Asked about conditions in Bala, Nomads' director of football Jay Catton said: "Freezing!

"We knew there was a bit of weather concerns with the weekend.

"But we didn't predict it was going to snow and sleet!

"It was a game they had to adapt to because those conditions change the game."

Nomads recovered after falling 1-0 behind to level prior to the interval, before what Catton described as a "strong second half" saw Connah's Quay book their place in the final.

The 4-1 success made it eight goals scored by Connah's Quay in their last two matches at Bala and Catton added: "Our goal ratio over the last seven-or-eight games has been good.

"Everyone in football knows the final third is the hardest and the lads are working really hard and their getting their rewards."

And just as pleasing for Catton is the goals are being shared throughout the team.

"We haven't really got a player pushing 15-20 goals, but we've got players pushing 5-10."

It's back to the bread-and-butter of the Cymru Premier League tonight with a testing encounter likely at Aberystwyth Town.

"It's always a challenging one with a Friday night fixture, but it's football," he added.

"We know what's in store.

"Travelling to an in-form Aber team who have beaten TNS at home and Cardiff Met away, both with clean sheets.

"We have got to be at it."

There are no major injury concerns as the Nomads prepare for their trip and Catton admits this is the tightest Cymru Premier League season he has experienced.

Admitting there's no point looking beyond the top-six as a target, Catton said: "The reality is how close the whole league is, from second to the second-from-bottom.

"It's the closest it's ever been.

"Every single game is going to be important."
