A DEESIDE family will once again be lighting up the lives of all those around them this Christmas as they raise money for charity.

Last year, the Connah's Quay home of Craig Taylor and his family caught the eye with its spectacular Christmas lights display.

In a year where the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the display featured a tribute to the NHS, as well as some Disney characters, and was done in aid of the Alder Hey children's hospital charity and collected £1,140.

The support shown for that fundraiser has led to Craig deciding to do the same again this year, but in aid of Hope House.

He said: "We only started last year doing the display for charity. Deep down I'm like a big kid when it comes to decorating the house with lights at Christmas, you would swear I wasn't 36!

"Myself and my wife (Vicki) took our two kids (Poppy, aged 9 and Riley, aged 6) to Disneyland Paris as a surprise in 2019, we had a few lights up that year but nothing on the scale of what we have now. While we were there we seen a few disadvantaged and disabled people.

"So last year we thought 'let's bring a bit of Disney to our house' and I made the Mickey and Minnie heads myself. Around October last year I said to Vicki I wanted to do something to dedicate the lights to the NHS with what they have done and been through since March 2020. Alder Hey is NHS funded so we thought it was only right we done something to say thanks to them for all their hard work."

This year, the light display at the Taylor household will be in aid of the Hope House charity.

Craig says the decision to choose them came in support of a close friend whose relative died of Covid-19 having been a champion for the charity.

He added: "I did initially sign up to a charity walk in aid of him and help raise loads of money for the charity while doing so, but unfortunately I had to pull out due to work commitments and lack of training for such a big event of walking a 180 mile round trip in 8 days.

"But I have said I will join in for 1 or 2 days here and there and help out in anyway I can, and this is our way of helping out instead.

"No matter how small people donate it all goes to a much needed charity to help those who are suffering. And should we or anyone we know, ever have to use the charity for whatever reason, then we know there will be money there to help them ease the pressure and pain the families go through.

"Should people wish to make any donations then simply go to the just giving page or pop it in an envelope and post it through our door. What we raised last year was just mind blowing and completely smashed the target of £500 we originally set."
