Wrexham has been rated the third best place in the UK for families this Christmas, joint with Oxford.

A study by OVO network has shown that Wrexham is the top place in Wales for Christmas days out, topping Cardiff, which ranked tenth in the UK, and Swansea, which ranked ten places behind Cardiff.

The study takes into account the number of toy-shops, sweet-shops, shopping centres, family attractions, and the likelihood of a white Christmas, to reveal the best places to keep little elves busy.

Findings show that Wrexham has the most toy shops per child in the UK, with almost 8 shops per 10,000 kids, ranking Wrexham first in this category.

Wrexham shares the third place ranking with Oxford. The town in north Wales ranks towards the top in the top 10 for four of the five categories considered in the study.

Wrexham is the second-best places to meet Santa this year, only Lisburn in Northern Ireland has more shopping centres per child.

Wrexham also has 21 child friendly attractions, plenty to keep children entertained in the Winter break.

York took first place overall in the UK for a Christmas day out, with Edinburgh in second place however London ranked second worst in the UK, only beaten to bottom place by Luton. Slough makes up the bottom three.
