New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to 14 of Southend’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

All of them have achieved a rating of five - top of the scale -this means the hygiene standards are very good

The following ratings have been given to nine restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: Cafe O'Portugues at Portuguese Cafe, 55 - 57 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff rated on November 16

• Rated 5: Ask at 7 - 8 The Broadway, London Road, Southend rated on November 10

• Rated 5: Atrium Cafe at South East Essex College, Luker Road, Southend; rated on November 5

• Rated 5: Cosy Coffee And Sandwich Bar at Basement And Ground Floor, 22 Clifftown Road, Southend; rated on November 4

• Rated 5: The Novel Coffee Shop at Southend Mencap, 98 London Road, Southend; rated on November 4

• Rated 5: Grosvenor Casino Southend at Palace Hotel, Church Road, rated on November 1

• Rated 5: Pipe Of Port at Basement, 84 High Street, Southend rated on November 1

• Rated 5: Anke's Tea And Coffee Lounge at 481 London Road, Westcliff; rated on October 26

• Rated 5: Milton Cafe at 63 Milton Road, Westcliff rated on October 23 Pubs, bars and nightclubs

And three ratings have been handed to pubs, bars or nightclubs:

• Rated 5: Revolution at 8 - 14 Queens Road, Southend; rated on November 11

• Rated 5: The Castle at 92 Eastern Esplanade, Southend; rated on November 2

• Rated 5: The Slug And Lettuce at 6 - 8 Southchurch Road, Southend; rated on October 20
