Netflix is celebrating Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham connection to promote Red Notice ahead of the new film release.
The production company sent a crew to Wrexham last week to engage with some of the town's well known personalities.
Ahead of the release of Red Notice, Netflix wanted to commemorate Ryan’s connection with Wrexham, its citizens, and it’s local hotspots.
The concept of trailer on a trailer, giving the people of Wrexham a sneak peak at an unseen clip from Red Notice, was taken through town and ended up at the Racecourse.
They collaborated with the football club, the mayor and Emz Cakes to produce a promotional video featuring Ryan himself.
Wrexham club-captain Ben Tozer was involved in the promotional activities and is looking forward to watching his co-chairman in action.
“Yeah it’s a bit strange and a bit surreal (promoting a chairman's new film) but it’s good fun really and it takes your mind off the football side of things so it’s quite nice," said the centre-half.
“Rob and Ryan were cool, they were just so normal, and I think that’s what they wanted it to be too, they wanted it to feel normal for themselves as well. They got involved and it was good fun.”
He added: “I’ll watch the film and be taking an interest in that. I really enjoyed Deadpool and I only watched that a few weeks ago, so I'll definitely tune in.”
A large part of the plot of Red Notice is based on rivalry and when asked who he thinks Ryan's favourite amongst the squad is, he gave a perhaps unsurprising answer.
“I’ve got no idea, no idea, that stuff doesn’t really bother us. Probably Mulls (Paul Mullin) though because everyone loves Mulls, so I’ll say him."
Cllr Ronnie Prince was treated to an exclusive viewing in Queen's square and he was full of praise for the impact Reynolds' has had on the town.
“Ryan is a really good guy, I met him and Rob at the football and they’re both great, they’re just ordinary guys with a passion for football and Wrexham," he said.
“They’ve got big plans for the football club and the town and its great. There is a big feel-good factor in Wrexham and there is passion all over the town, there always has been”
“Everyone is talking about it, everyone in the town is smiling because of them and there hasn’t been much to smile about lately, so that is great."
The mayor was impressed with the sneak peak he'd seen and his appetite for the full release had only increased.
“Without a doubt I'll be watching, it looks a really good film. I'm really looking forward to sitting down and watching it.”
“It looks a good comedy action film and I'll be telling all my grandkids to watch it too."
Owner of Emz Cakes, Emma Wilson baked up a crazy creation to celebrate the Hollywood stars' connection to Wrexham.
She baked a Ryan Reynolds inspired cake - of his head - which took her ten hours to piece together.
Emma couldn't be there on the day, but Emily Rowland stepped in to showcase the creation, who played down the chances of starring with Ryan in a future film.
"I think that’s the closest I’ll ever come to meeting Ryan Reynolds I’m afraid," she said laughingly.
"I’m a massive fan of his and he’s my boyfriend's favourite actor, he definitely has a man crush on him.”
“It's a shame for Emma and she is gutted she can’t be here, she worked so hard on it."
