A RAFFLE and Harvest Tea supporting a community scheme to help prevent families in Mold from going hungry, has been hailed as a tremendous success by the organisers.

The Community Fridge at Parkfields Community Centre, Mold, operates on the simple principle of take what you need, give what you can.

Parkfields recently held a charity Harvest raffle to raise funds to purchase essential food, personal hygiene and cleaning products for the Community Fridge at the Centre.

£910 was raised from the sale of raffle tickets, thanks to tremendous support from members of the public and all the volunteers who sold the tickets.

Through Nanette Davies, who organized the raffle, Barclays Bank has agreed in principle to match pound for pound what the raffle raised.

As well as the raffle ticket sales, generous donations have also been made by individuals to support the Community Fridge.

In Mold the Community Fridge is stocked from a mixture of donations and surplus stock. Every week Parkfields receives surplus food from local supermarkets and food generously donated in supermarkets by customers. The charity aims to reduce food waste at the same time as helping to prevent people in our community from going hungry.

Haydn Jones, chair of Parkfields Management Committee said, “I would like to thank everyone involved in the raffle and Harvest Tea at Parkfields. We are grateful to the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes, and all the people who bought and sold raffle tickets. The Harvest Tea was a lovely occasion, with a blessing from members of local churches and delicious home-made refreshments.”

The Community Fridge is used by around 15 to 20 households from Mold twice a week. No referral is needed so people can drop in and collect the quality food, personal hygiene and cleaning products available that day.

It is open on Monday and Thursdays from 10am to 11am at Parkfields Community Centre, Ash Grove, Mold CH7 1TB. To find out more please email parkfieldsccmold@outlook.com; phone 01352 756337; or message our Facebook page Parkfields Community Centre.

The Community Fridge is supported by environmental charity Hubbub UK, a nationwide network to tackle food waste and also the Neighbourly and Fareshare giving platforms.

The Parkfields team says it is grateful to have received grant funding to set up the Community Fridge last November, from three organisations - The Waterloo Foundation, Community Foundation Wales, and Voluntary Services Emergency Fund Comic Relief.
