JOURNALIST Naga Munchetty has defended giving airtime to "11th placed Wrexham AFC" on her sports programme.

Naga's BBC 5 Live radio show devoted several minutes to the Wrexham AFC match at Maidenhead United's York Road ground where the Reds' owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney turned up to watch the match.

However, the match did not follow the script as the stars may have hoped as 10-man Wrexham were beaten 3-2.

However, despite being one of the biggest stories in world football since the Hollywood pair took over Wrexham AFC in February, there was criticism that it was not newsworthy.

Twitter-user Matt Greenfield-Westcott tweeted: "Almost 10 mins devoted to 11th placed @Wrexham_AFC's defeat to @MUFCYorkRoad on @bbc5live with @TVNaga01 because @VancityReynolds was in the crowd. Should I expect a half-hour prime time slot the next time @LloydGriffith appears at BP to watch 1st placed @officialgtfc? #utm #GTFC."

But Naga hit back, claiming the story was worthy of coverage.

She said: "Matt - It was 5 minutes.

"It's an interesting, quirky story, happening in league football - How often do we see clubs with Hollywood stars, who are a part-owner, watch and attend matches with fans?

"My programme covers all sorts of topics - However, in answer to your Question - No."

A satisfactory answer for all - except perhaps comedian and actor Lloyd Griffith.

He tweeted: "NAGA I CAN SEE THIS YOU KNOW?!?!"
