Help your children to read

Reading is one of the most important things your child will learn at school. The most important thing you can do is make the time to read with your child every day, whether a book sent home from school, borrowed from the library or from your own bookshelves. All libraries have a selection of reading scheme books to help support your child’s learning. A reading scheme is a series of books that have been carefully written to support the process of learning to read and to help children make progress as readers. These include Oxford Reading Tree, Usborne First Reading, Maverick Early Readers, Reading Champions, DK Readers, Bloomsbury Young Readers, and Ladybird Readers and many more, so you’re sure to find something that suits you and your child.

Strictly…Reading!

Now Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, why not get your dancing shoes out and learn to dance at home. Wrexham’s Libraries have a range of dance books that you can add to your reading list to help you learn the steps. Titles include Anton’s Dance Class by Anton Du Beke; Ballroom Dancing by Paul Bottomer’ and Strictly Come Dancing – Step-By-Step Dance Class by K. Baker & R. Schiller. If you love reading biographies, why not try Len Goodman’s Better Late Than Never; Bruno Tonioli’s My Story; or what about 2020 Strictly contestant, Nicola Adams’ book Believe. Did you know that Anton Du Beke has written fiction novels? His book One Enchanted Evening is available now at Wrexham Library and was described by the bestselling author, Santa Montefiore as 'Downton with dance, perfect!'. Keep Reading!

Book Review

Pulpit Rock by Kate Rhodes

Pulpit Rock by Kate Rhodes

Pulpit Rock by Kate Rhodes

I have read the previous three books in this series set in the Scilly isles, and enjoyed them all. The main character Ben Kitto has returned to his home islands, after recovering from the death of a colleague whilst he was working undercover in the met. He is now Deputy Commander of the Isles of Scilly police force, and he has another mystery to solve, this time on the island of St Mary’s. I always enjoy the descriptions of the islands in these books, and the story once again pulls you in from the very beginning. I thought I knew who the killer was, but I was proved wrong again! After reading the beautiful descriptions, I really would like to visit the Scilly isles one day! Tina
