ST John's Methodist Church will hold its tradition Christmas Tree Festival later this year.

The church is usually adorned with dozens of Christmas trees for the festival, decorated by people, organisations and businesses around the town, to help raise funds for the church's projects.

There is also the prayer tree, on which people can place a Christmas message.

The event has been a mainstay at the church for several years, but last year was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In lieu of the event last year, church members staged a 'walking nativity' around the town, with festive scenes displayed in the town's churches.

Church steward, Maurice Latham, confirmed the Christmas Tree Festival was returning this year and asked if local businesses would like to sponsor a tree.

He said: "St John's Methodist Church is holding a Christmas Tree Festival and is looking for businesses around town to sponsor a tree.

"All funds are for the upkeep of this iconic building.

"The festival opens on December 3 open and to get in touch, call 01948880218."
