A 46-year-old Wirral man who works in Wrexham has been arrested near Bolton on suspicion of grooming.

Officers arrested the man on Alexandra Road in the village of Prestolee, between Bolton and Manchester.

The arrest was made just after 6pm on Sunday and, police say, enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police attended an incident on Alexandra Road just after 6pm on Sunday 10 October, where a group had detained a man.

“Officers attended, and a 46 year-old-man has been arrested on suspicion of grooming, and remains in custody for questioning."

The BBC has reported that the man works at a secondary school in Wrexham.

A video of the arrest and events leading up to it, in which a man from Wallasey confirms he is a teacher at a secondary school in Wrexham, was broadcast on social media.

Wrexham Council said it was aware of the footage.

A spokesperson for the council said that "it would not be appropriate to comment on this matter as it relates to an ongoing process."

They added: “All matters will be dealt with through the appropriate policies, procedures and safeguarding arrangements in partnership with the relevant agencies.”
