A baby loss charity is partnering with Theatr Clwyd, to show support to bereaved parents and families affected by baby loss during this month's Baby Loss Awareness Week.

The Mold theatre will be showing their support for people affected by baby loss throughout Baby Loss Awareness Week (October 9-15), by illuminating the outside of the building pink and blue, as part of the UK baby loss awareness week pink and blue campaign.

They will also be supporting locally-based baby loss charity, Our Sam, by providing a space for their online choir for bereaved parents from across the UK, Our Stars Choir, to come together on October 9, the first day of Baby Loss Week, to sing together for the first time.

October 9 is a very special day for this choir, as it is not only the first day of Baby Loss Awareness Week, and the first time they get to rehearse together, but it is also the day they release a music single and video to support bereaved parents across the UK, to show them they are not alone.

Our Sam was formed in 2020, after Dancing in the Wings, a play written by bereaved mum Philippa Davies, to raise awareness and understanding for people affected by baby loss, premiered at Theatr Clwyd.

The moving audience response led to the development of the baby loss charity, Our Sam, named after Philippa's daughter, who was stillborn in 2012.

Since achieving charity status in 2020, Our Sam has worked to raise awareness, understanding, and improve support, and access to support for bereaved parents and families following miscarriage, termination for medical reasons, still-birth, and neonatal death.

In the last 12 months the charity has set up Our Stars Choir, an online choir for bereaved parents from across the UK and developed an online one-stop signposting resource, SOS Baby Loss, for bereaved parents.

Little Light is an original song, written by Philippa, with music producer Chris Hollis (New Noise Audio), choir director Steve Taylor, and video producer Paul Smith (Standout Films).

The song was recorded with Our Stars Choir, featuring Liverpool singer Angela Inkson, by guitarist Ben Thomas, who has performed with Adele and Sam Smith at his studio in Kent.

Philippa said: "Baby loss affects more than a quarter of a million people across the UK each year, and yet remains very much a taboo and uncomfortable subject for many.

"Music is something that brings people together. We developed the choir during lockdown to bring together bereaved parents, who love to sing, to have fun, reduce isolation, and enable confidence building.

"We're really grateful to Theatr Clwyd for their support in allowing the choir to come together in the theatre, and delighted to return to the place where our journey with Our Sam began.

"This amazing group of bereaved parents went into a studio for the first time to record Little Light in the summer, a phenomenal and brave achievement after overcoming so much pain and trauma."

Theatr Clwyd's executive director Liam Evans-Ford said: "The community sits at the heart of what we do at Theatr Clwyd. We are delighted to provide space for this wonderful choir to come together for the first time on the day of their music release, and we are also proud to be able show our own support for bereaved parents and families through illuminating the building for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2021."

• Little Light will be available for download from October 9 on Amazon Music and iTunes with proceeds going to Our Sam to support parents and families affected by baby loss.
