RESIDENTS in Gresford will be choosing their new councillor next month, following the resignation of Cllr Andrew Atkinson over the summer.

Cllr Atkinson stepped down on August 31 after four years in the role, having announced he was relocating to Panama in Central America.

He represented the Gresford East and West electoral ward on Wrexham Council and had also served as the portfolio holder for children's services on the council's executive board.

Now Wrexham Council is holding a by-election which will take place on October 28 if the election is contested.

Nomination papers for prospective candidates have to be received by the council's returning officer at The Guildhall in Wrexham by 4pm on Friday, October 1.

Once the candidates have been verified, a list will be available here https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/current-elections-and-vacancies.

Any applications to be able to vote in this election must reach the Electoral Registration Office at The Guildhall in Wrexham by Tuesday, October 12. Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
