WREXHAM Council has launched a new Food Waste Survey for residents to complete.

The authority wants as many people as possible to take part to help it improve the service it provides in Wrexham.

The council said: "We’re pleased to be launching our Food Waste Survey during Recycle Week 2021 (September 20-26). It’s a short survey that should only take around 5 minutes of your time to complete, so please take part if you can.

"If you don’t recycle all your food waste, please don’t be afraid to share this with us – it’s not a test! We know there’s still a considerable amount of food waste going in general waste bins and we would simply like to try and find out the different reasons for this.

"It’s a really good opportunity to have your say, so please get involved and let us know what you think. The survey is live until November 1.

“We want to hear from as many people as possible”

People can take part at the recycling centres in the county.

Those visiting the centres will be be asked if they would like to answer a couple of short questions about their food waste on arrival by the attendants at the sites.

Taking part is entirely optional.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We really encourage everyone to complete our new Food Waste Survey. Whether you’re recycling all – or none – of your food waste we want to hear from as many people as possible. It’s not a test, so please try to be accurate with the information you give. We’re just looking to learn more about why people do or don’t recycle their leftovers.

“The survey will be live until November 1, and it doesn’t take long to complete, so please take part if you can. The information you provide will be used to develop the service in Wrexham, so it’s definitely worthwhile letting us know what you think. Thanks.”

What the survey is looking for:

  • Your habits around recycling food waste
  • Reasons why food might get wasted
  • What motivates residents to recycle food waste
  • Feedback on our collections – what we’re doing well, as well as areas we can improve
  • Ideas for collection points where people can pick up our free caddy liners
  • When completing the survey, you may even pick up a few ideas and tips from some of the options in the questions. For example, have you ever considered creating a meal plan for your week to avoid overbuying and wasting food? Or have you thought about how you store your food? These are just a couple of things that might help to lessen the amount of food your household wastes.
