A 98-year-old woman challenged burglars during a "sickening" incident, police have said.

Wrexham Town Inspector Luke Hughes has called for the public's help to find those responsible.

He said: "Can I appeal for any information you may have in relation to a sickening burglary that took place last night (Wednesday, September 15) at around 11.30pm at a property on Camberley Drive, Wrexham.

"At this time three individuals entered the property and conducted an untidy search, throwing furniture around in the attempt to find valuable items.

"Whilst searching the occupant, a 98 year old lady has heard the noise and challenged them, a brief confrontation has occurred and they made good their escape.

"The lady, whilst shocked, was not hurt in this incident; however this will no doubt have some physiological impact.

"Can I appeal for anyone with CCTV in that area to check their cameras.

"I’m looking for three adults, likely male, at around 11.30pm.

"I suspect they would have parked a vehicle nearby and so if you have seen or have any footage of vehicles acting suspiciously or at speed in this area around that time I need to know.

"Also if you know who is responsible.. We need to know.

"Please contact North Wales Police on 101 or via our chat facility and quote 21000644375.

"In way of a message to the offenders, I am absolutely shocked and appalled that this disgusting offence took place.

"How dare you prey on an elderly victim in this way - you need to know that we will do all that we possibly can to locate you and ensure you get the appropriate justice.

"You should be ashamed of yourselves."
