AN abusive Wrexham man accused of following and terrifying a woman stranger as she walked down a street was jailed for 38 weeks – on his 53rd birthday.

Paul Evans, of Primrose Way, Wrexham, had threatened to stab the woman and shouted and swore aggressively, a district judge at Llandudno court was told on Wednesday.

Two other women told the victim to stand with them in a playground for her safety and alleged Evans, nicknamed “Trog”, often behaved in such a way.

Prosecutor James Neary said: "She genuinely feared he would cause her harm. She was terrified the defendant wouldn’t leave her alone.”

Evans admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order at Southsea, Wrexham.

Mr Neary said he told police he had taken amphetamines and thought the woman was his dead ex-wife.

Stephen Edwards, defending, said Evans had mental health issues.

When he had a breakdown he would shout at people.

“He says he has no recollection of the incident,” the solicitor added.

District judge Gwyn Jones told Evans on September 6 he had made threats towards a lone innocent woman.

“That lone female didn’t know what you were capable of doing. What you did caused her to be in fear for her personal safety,” the judge remarked.

Evans was subject to a suspended sentence which was activated.

“The court gave you an opportunity to try and address your behaviour,” Judge Jones declared.

“You have a history of anti-social behaviour.” The judge praised the women who came to the aid of the victim.
