POLICE officers are to remind drivers about the rules of the road after reports of 'inconsiderate' parking in Hope and Caergwrle.

The North Wales Police South Flintshire team has said regular patrols will be carried out to speak to motorists about the Highway Code.

A spokesman explained: "Through community engagement, North Wales Police has received reports of problematic parking of vehicles.

"Inconsiderate or illegally parked vehicles are a potentially dangerous street obstruction which can force pedestrians to walk along the road to bypass those vehicles.

"This is especially problematic for pedestrians who are blind or visually impaired, wheelchair or mobility users, people with pushchairs, the elderly and emergency services.

"Reports include vehicles parked near school entrances (zig zags), across dropped kerbs, too close to other street furniture, parked half on the pavement and roads and in some cases vehicles parked fully on pavements."

The team his issued Highway Code guidance on social media, emphasising several points to assist with confusion regarding parking regulations.

These include:

  • Near a school entrance
  • On a pedestrian crossing, including the area marked by the zig-zag lines
  • Anywhere you would prevent access for emergency services
  • At or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
  • Opposite or within ten metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
  • Near the brow of a hill, hump bridge or bend
  • Opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
  • Where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
  • In front of an entrance to a property
  • On a cycle track where you would obstruct cyclists' use of cycle facilities except when forced to do by stationary traffic
