A FORMER hotel worker has been fined and banned for drug driving.

Ashton Drew, of Stonehey Road in Southdene, Kirkby, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old admitted that on April 4 in Wrexham, she drove a Ford Fiesta on Ruthin Road when the proportion of benzoylecgonine exceeded the specified limit.

He was found to have 268 microgrammes of the substance per litre of blood - the limit being 50.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said at around 3am police wanted to talk to her about a domestic incident.

Officers were directed to the Ruthin Road railway bridge in Wrexham, where they found her in her car.

As they spoke to her they could smell alcohol on her breath - but a breath test came back negative.

When she completed a drugs swipe however she tested positive for cocaine.

She was arrested and taken to Llay Police Station.

Ms Jackson said Drew was a woman of previous good character.

Euros Jones, defending, said Drew and her partner had an argument on the evening of the offence and that the offence will have "a huge impact on their lives."

She'd had to resign from her employment at a hotel.

The court handed her a £180 fine and ordered her to pay £85 costs, as well as a £34 surcharge.

She was also disqualified for 12 months.
