A COMMUNITY has rallied together to ensure the successful re-opening on a social club following substantial renovations.

Earlier this month, the Cefn Mawr Community Social Club officially re-opened its doors to customers after a bout is renovations,

The majority of the renovation work was undertaken by members of the committee and their family and friends – giving their free time where they could. And a sizeable amount of building materials, fixtures and fittings were donated or supplied at a reduced cost from local businesses.

Welsh Conservative Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes, visited to officially re-open the club following a substantial programme of renovations throughout the Covid-19 lockdown period.

During the visit, Mr Baynes, who was accompanied by his wife, Maggie, cut the official ribbon alongside Club members, staff and committee. The visit was followed by an evening which featured live entertainment from the Drougs and Stevie H.

Once the club allowed to reopen, strict restrictions were put in place, and staff ensured all measures were followed to keep members safe. This resulted in no Covid-19 outbreaks or onward transmissions.

The club are proud to support an array of local activities including: subsidised coach trips to Blackpool, amateur football, darts, bingo, dominoes and pigeon fanciers, together with the use of the extensive facilities on offer for children's parties, birthdays, wakes, Christmas and New Year’s parties and now Karaoke every Friday night – which is already proving to be extremely popular.

The creation of a new beer garden is also nearing completion, this will complete the total renovation of the premises inside and out.

Club Chairman, Matthew Roberts, said: "I would like to thank Simon and his wife Maggie for re-opening the club and staying to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. Simon has been a great help and support in raising the profile of the club over the covid lockdowns.

"We are all extremely proud of everything that has been achieved and would like to thank everyone who has contributed in making the club what it is today.

"I'm sure everyone who visits the club agrees that we offer a warm and welcoming environment for all ages to enjoy."

Commenting on the visit, Mr Baynes added: "It was a pleasure to visit Cefn Mawr Community Social Club with my wife, Maggie, who also greatly enjoyed the evening and the live entertainment.

"It was a wonderful event and the Club members and committee should be very proud of all that they have achieved. There was a very special atmosphere to the evening and everyone present was very grateful for the Club’s transformation.

"I would like to pay special tribute to the Club members and committee who have worked incredibly hard to renovate the facilities and which look excellent."
