FIREFIGHTERS have been thanked for their quick response to an early hours vehicle blaze in Buckley.

The Leader reported previously how North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 1am on Thursday reporting the incident, in Bryn Awelon.

One crew from Buckley attended the scene and tackled the flames, with the cause confirmed to have been an electrical fault.

Bryn Awelon resident Zara-Lea Field, 21, described the nerve-racking experience.

She explained: "I was asleep and I heard a car alarm go off. It was so loud I thought it was mine.

"When I looked out of the window, all I could see was flames.

"I was in a bit of a panic, I ran downstairs to tell my dad and I just called the fire brigade straight away.

"The rest of our neighbours all started to come out. It was so close to one of the houses that one of the fences was on fire as well."

She said the neighbours worked together to alert the residents in the home closest to the fire.

"Everyone was concerned about making sure they were safe and helping them," she said.

"I really felt connected with all of my neighbours.

"When I saw the flames at first, I was worried about it spreading, and for the elderly residents in the street.

"I was really concerned about it reaching any of the houses. "And what was really scary was it banging - you see it in movies where cars explode and I was worried something was going to blow up.

"I really want to say a huge thank you to the firefighters.

"They did such a good job and they were so quick in responding and they made sure everything was settled."

When the firefighters arrived, they found a car on fire and 8ft of fencing well alight.

The team used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

Nobody was injured but the incident resulted in 100 per cent damage to the vehicle's engine, a spokesman confirmed.
