A MAN who told a woman she was "going to die" as he poured the contents of a petrol can over her has been jailed.

Shaun Lloyd, of Prince of Wales Court in Buckley, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday for sentence.

Appearing via video link from HMP Berwyn, the 22-year-old had previously admitted making threats to kill, common assault and possession of cannabis.

Karl Scholz, prosecuting, said that on July 10 this year there was a social gathering at the home of complainant Zoie Inns in Greenfield.

Lloyd was there and after a certain point, he felt he was being insulted and left.

He returned at the end of the evening carrying a petrol can and proceeded to throw the contents of it over Ms Inns.

He shouted that he would "f****** set fire to the lot of you," and "you're all going to f****** die."

The liquid soaked Ms Inns' clothing and went on her door and doorstep, leaving her terrified and believing he was going to set fire to her.

When he was later arrested, Lloyd told police he had consumed ten cans of lager, as well as taking speed and smoking cannabis.

He said the remark at the gathering which "infuriated" him was a reference to him having been put on the sex offenders' register in June 2020, as a result of him being convicted for an offence of exposure.

Initially he claimed to have found petrol can in a hedge and said he filled it with water, but at the Crown Court hearing he accepted he was being sentenced on the basis it contained petrol and didn't seek a trial of issue.

Mr Scholz said the defendant had a "violent and aggressive streak", demonstrated by his "really quite appalling" criminal record.

That record includes numerous convictions for violence, criminal damage, threats, possession of weapons, assaulting emergency workers and affray.

Jemma Gordon, defending, said: "He wishes to express an apology to everyone concerned; he knows this behaviour won't be tolerated by the court and that he faces a significant custodial sentence.

"He is only 22, but has a fairly lengthy record of convictions - a lot for violent offences.

"As a child he spent a significant period of time in care.

"At 13, he found his father's body after he committed suicide and he has a volatile relationship with his mother.

"Effectively that has impacted on his mental health and his ability to control his emotions, particularly anger.

"He recognises that drinking, particularly to excess, does not help his position and it makes his mental health worse.

"He wants to turn his life around and he is going to use his time in custody effectively."

Judge Rhys Rowlands told the defendant: "Naturally Ms Inns was terrified by your behaviour, fearing she was going to be set alight. "Very serious distress has been caused. A custodial sentence is inevitable."

The Judge jailed Lloyd for 42 months for making threats to kill.

No separate penalty was imposed for the other two offences.
