AN EVENT raised over £5,000 for a three-year-old Wrexham girl battling a brain tumour.

It took place on Saturday at the Hafod Colliery Club in Rhosllanerchrugog and raised vital funds for Aria Hodgkiss, from Rhostyllen - who has an inoperable brain tumour, known as DIPG.

The family is currently buying a new form of treatment in the form of the ONC201 drug which could help extend her life.

But the treatment isn't available on the NHS - meaning Aria's family must pay for it. And it will eventually cost them €1,000 Euros a week to import it from Germany.

And Saturday's event - which saw a variety of live music performances and other forms of entertainment - raised over £5,000 of vital funds for Aria's family.

Cllr Paul Pemberton, of the Rhosllanerchrugog ward, was a chief organiser in the event.

He said: "It was a fantastic community event - the sort we have all missed. I wanted to do something to help Aria and her family, and also put something on for the community after the last 18 months we've all had.

"I can’t begin to thank everyone, including local businesses who gave some colossal donations, the acts who were stunning, all the helpers and everyone who attended.

"I couldn’t have done this without you - everyone of you are stars."

He added: "Star of the show was little Aria who made a personal thanks to all that were there. When she took to the microphone to say thank you, people were in tears.

"Hopefully this money will go a long way to funding her treatment."

Aria's mum, Mel, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped and donated for this event.

"It was amazing to see everyone come together to support Aria. Thank you so much."
