THE mood in Wrexham town centre is "very positive" ahead of the next potential de-escalation of covid-19 rules, a business leader has said.

Ruth Rees, chair of Wrexham Business Group CIC and co-owner of Martin Rees Jewellers said town centre traders continue to help and support each other as the rules change.

She explained: "I think from the really high levels of footfall we saw when lockdown first ended, things have dropped off and calmed down somewhat.

"But we're definitely still holding our own.

"We're very grateful the council still has its free after 11 parking, which is great - we definitely need that support.

"To me, the overall mood in the town seems very positive.

"There are various things planned for the next few months and the museum is doing events. "All kinds of things are coming alive again but there is still a certain amount of caution.

"As a business we have relaxed things slightly to let more people in at once but we are trying to keep all of our precautions in place to keep staff and customers safe."

The Welsh Government has said previously that from Saturday, August 7 (if conditions allow), there will be a complete the move to alert level 0.

This will remove legal restrictions on the number of people who can meet indoors, including in private homes, public places or at events.

It will mean all businesses and premises can open, including nightclubs but people should still work from home wherever possible and face coverings will remain a legal requirement indoors, with the exception of hospitality premises.

Ruth added: "We're going week-to-week and we will have to see how everything balances out when the Welsh Government advises the next round of changes.

"As businesses, we are still doing our best to support and help each other."
