Wrexham Olympic rower Vicky Thornley is through to the semi finals in her quest for gold in Tokyo.
Vicky, 33, came third in the quarter finals, which has earned her a place in the semis of the women's single sculls.
Her proud father Andrew Thornley said that the family had stayed up late to watch her in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The semi finals are due to take place in the early hours of Thursday UK time.
Andrew said: "Vicky is feeling good. The semi is going to be a pretty brutal race because that's for the A or B final and everyone will want to get in the top three there.
"They will also want to try to win because then they get the best lanes.
"We are very excited to watch her as she competes in Tokyo."
Third Olympics
This is Vicky's third consecutive Olympics, having won silver in the women's double sculls with Dame Katherine Grainger at Rio in 2016.
She is seeded sixth in the UK and is the first British woman to qualify for single sculls in the Olympics since Alison Mowbray at Sydney 2000.
St Asaph-born Vicky lived in Colwyn Bay until the age of 11, attending Rydal Penrhos school, before moving to Holt in Wrexham.
