'SELFISH and inconsiderate' parents have been urged to be more mindful when picking up and dropping off their children at school.

The Leader reported in October how Sgt David Smith of the Wrexham Town Policing Team warned bad parking outside primary schools was putting children in danger.

He and PC Stuart Roberts explained how when they had tried to speak to those responsible, they had been met with "frosty" responses, with issues including parking on double yellow lines and zig-zags, as well as over pavements and residents' driveways.

Sgt Smith told the Leader this week that the problem has not stopped.

"It's still ongoing," he said.

"It's obviously going to stop for the summer months, but parking is still an issue outside schools.

"People are really quite inconsiderate of others.

"Some still, selfishly, want to park outside the schools to pick up their children.

"But it's putting the safety of children at risk and a lot of these schools are built on roads which were not built for this number of cars.

"Class sizes have increased and so more people are picking up and dropping off.

"We are working with the schools to try and educate the parents.

"And in Rhostyllen for example, we are currently working with the community council to fund some signage for outside the school.

"We're asking people to please be more mindful and considerate of others."
