A community group has finally celebrated its 20th anniversary, having been forced to spread out celebrations out as a result of covid.

To mark Caia Park Environmental Group's special milestone since its creation in 1999, they held a celebratory evening with guests that have been involved with the group over the two decades since its creation.

Guests were invited to speak, and then shown a presentation of the group's activities.

Children from two of the local primary schools made birthday cards for the Wrexham group, which also held a competition for the best cards.

Judging was done by Jane Cotton from Wrexham County Borough Council, Caia Park estate manager Craig Youens and group founder Dorothy Mitchell from the Caia Park Environmental Group.

Winners were Ellie Plumber, Zac Hughes and Lexi Jones of Gwenfro CP School.

They were presented with prizes and their school was given two fruit trees, which were planted in the school grounds to mark the group's 20th anniversary.

The Caia Park Environmental Group also marked the occasion by planting a tree at the Caia Park Partnership. It was planted by Pryer, Suresh, Dorothy Mitchell, Andrew Turner and Craig Youens, representing the group.

Dorothy said: "We chose trees because they're important right now, with carbon reduction and climate change.

"The school were given two apple trees, and hopefully we can help them develop their own orchard. It's all about sustainability."

She added: "I'd like to thank all the people who have been involved with the group over the last 20 years.

"Without them the group would never have been able to function."
