A VILLAGE pub's plans to provide cover in its beer garden have been given the green light.

The proposal put forward for The Bull in Shocklach, near Malpas, was rubber stamped by Cheshire West and Chester Council this week.

Owners Carmichael & Pugh Restaurants Limited submitted a planning application back in April to erect two free-standing wooden gazebos.

The structures will each measure just under 2.5m to the ridge, have a total length of 5m and a width of 3m.

In a report recommending approval, council case officer Edward Shepherd said: "The scale and size of the structures, which are open sided, means visually the proposal would appear light weight and clearly ancillary to the existing pub.

"It is accepted that the structures would be in close proximity to a number of residential property.

"The use therefore could give rise to an increase level of noise disturbance particularly in winter months.

"However, the area where the structures are sited is already and has historically been used as a beer garden, the structures are relatively modest in scale and size and completely open sided.

"The design would limit the amount of people who will be able to congregate under them.

"As such, despite the proximity to the residential properties the development is not considered to result in an unacceptable level of residential amenity."
