A Flintshire primary school has bid an emotional farewell to a member of staff who has been with them for almost five decades.

After an astonishing career spanning 48 years at Ysgol Glanrafon, in Mold, nursery nurse Ann Joseph is retiring.

Ann began working at the school when she was 16, in 1973 and has been a valuable and a hard-working member of staff, working under the leadership of four headteachers.

A statement on behalf of all at the school read: "Miss Joseph has been one of the pillars of Ysgol Glanrafon for many years, and the school has meant as much to her as she has meant to the school.

"Miss Ann, as she was known to many, was always a quiet and conscientious employee who didn't seek any praise for all she did.

"Everything she did was top notch and faultless, her faithfulness and loyalty to the school has been unmoved over the years.

"Hundreds of pupils and families recall how Miss Joseph was always so kind to them, and was a big part of school life as she worked within the Early Years department.

"She was always smiling and so welcoming, and had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all at the school.

"We as staff, pupils, parents, governors and friends of the school, wish her all the best in her retirement. Hwyl fawr Miss Joseph!"

During a celebration at the school, Ann was presented with gifts and flowers, and given a big send off by pupils.
