You wait a year for the return of theatre, then 12 shows all come along at once.

Theatr Clwyd in Mold, is playing host to the Clwyd Community Theatre Association's one-act drama festival, which runs from tonight until July 10.

This is the one, and only, drama festival taking place in Wales this year. It will run with a much reduced audience capacity and special measures in place for cast, crew and audiences.

There are 10 competing groups, seven local, one from Cheshire and two from Mid-Wales.

With something to suit every taste, theatregoers really are spoilt for choice.

Phoenix Players Denbigh - Canary

Rustic Theatre Company - The Heaven's Above

Festival organiser, Richard Jones, said: "Obviously over the past 18 months, actors, both professional and community, and audiences have been starved of live theatre.

"The sense of joy amongst the competing groups is tremendous and everyone is so looking forward to performing in front of a live audience, albeit a much reduced one due to restrictions.

"Even though it is a competition with an overall winner chosen by our GoDA adjudicator, Bev Clark, the emphasis has been taking part and enjoying the whole experience of live theatre.

"One more giant step on the road to recovery."
