A social club in Wrexham could be turned into a bar and restaurant under new proposals.

An application has been put forward to change the use of Acrefair Sports and Social Club.

The club on Bethania Road in Acrefair has been closed since December when lockdown measures were reintroduced in Wales to address growing numbers of coronavirus cases.

The owners now want to re-open it under a new guise as the Delph Bar and Restaurant.

In documents submitted to Wrexham Council, representatives for NRJ Venues Ltd said: “We would like to open a family-friendly bar and restaurant serving good quality food and alcohol inside as well as in the grounds.

“The building will be refurbished throughout and will include an outdoor children’s play area.

“The building also has an existing function room which we intend to use to host community events and fundraisers, corporate training events and occasions (wedding reception, christening, wake etc).

“Acrefair Sports and Social Club was open and trading until December 2020 when it closed due to the change in Covid restrictions and had planned to fully re-open once Covid rules allowed.”

A decision will be made on the proposals by the local authority at a later date.
