A TERMINALLY ill Wrexham woman who braved the shave has raised several thousand pounds for Nightingale House Hospice where she is cared for.

Denise Cross, 62, has metastatic kidney cancer - which had sadly spread to her lungs, liver and brain, resulting in a terminal diagnosis.

But that's not stopped her from raising nearly £7,500 for Nightingale House - where she is now receiving full-time care.

On Wednesday, Denise had her hair shaved in aid of the hospice - and, amazingly, has raised the amount in a matter of days of launching the fundraiser.

Dozens of messages of support have been flying in for Denise, with her being described as an "inspiration" and an "incredible lady".

Denise said: “I want people to know that Nightingale House is not a place of sadness. As soon as the doors open nothing is too much trouble and you arrive in this tranquil and calm environment.

"The staff are amazing, and they have supported me all the way. I want to give something back because I want to let all staff at Nightingale House know what angels they are, from the housekeepers, cooks, nurses, health care support workers and anyone else I haven’t mentioned."

And Denise had one final message for any other people out in the community who were struggling with their symptoms to not be afraid

She said: “If there are any other people in a similar position to me and have any doubts about using the facilities at the hospice please just conjure up the courage, feel the fear and do it anyway – you will never regret it. I love to wake up in the morning and hear the voices on the ward and try and guess which staff are in that day.”
