MS for Delyn

Many residents and Leader readers have raised concerns with me over recent weeks and months about crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities. Whether its anti-social behaviour, drugs or theft, it all has an impact on our quality of life.

Where specific concerns have been raised I will be meeting with Flintshire County Council and North Wales Police to search for solutions, and updating residents as much as possible. At the end of last week I met with the new Inspector for the Prevention Hub, whose role is to focus on working with communities to prevent crime taking place, and he shared some positive steps with me. In the coming weeks I will be meeting with our new Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin, to explore how we can work together to make our streets and communities safer.

If any Leader readers have concerns they would like to raise with me, please email me at Hannah.Blythyn@senedd.wales or call 01352 762102.

I’ve regularly made clear that protecting our environment and supporting communities and our country to become more sustainable is personal and political priority of mine. This week I’ve joined many others in marking World Refill Day, encouraging others to move away from single-use plastics and use reusable, refillable bottles instead.

Just over three years ago I announced the Welsh Government’s ambition to make Wales a Refill Nation, working with City to Sea and supporting Refill Wales. Since then we’ve seen the rolling out of a refill revolution with thousands of refill stations across the country, including in this constituency.

Water can also play a huge part in helping us to create greener, cleaner energy. So it was great to visit the Port of Mostyn again last week to have an update on the progress of their plans for a tidal lagoon across the Dee Estuary. Last year I hosted a virtual briefing for North Wales politicians, so we could hear more about the proposed investment and the jobs which the lagoon would create, in addition to the sustainable energy.

Developing sustainable energy sources is key to protecting our planet and natural environment and I’ll continue to offer any support I can to these proposals, as well as working to bring further opportunities.

I am aware of concerns being raised about the proposed pipeline which will transport CO2 through parts of Flintshire, including Flint Mountain, Northop and Northop Hall. I want to encourage Leader readers to share their views on the plans by responding to the public consultation which is now available at https://www.hynethub.co.uk.

As ever I would welcome residents also sharing their views with me and I will continue to update residents through my columns and on my Facebook page – Hannah Blythyn MS.
