A COMMUNITY came together for a 'common vision and purpose' to raise funds for a Deeside youngster with a life-limiting condition.

Over the weekend, members of Deeside Round Tale, supported by the community, took part in a 'Millie and Mind Cycle Challenge' fundraiser at Morrisons in Connah's Quay.

One team took on actual bikes and another team stayed on static bikes, located at the Morrisons entrance.

With the aim of covering 160 miles, the cyclists started from Morrisons and travelled to Chester and Saltney Morrisons stores and back again.

The static bikes then covered the rest of the miles.

After four hours of pedal power, a total of £632 was raised which will be split between two causes.

One for MIND North East Wales and another for Connah's Quay teen Millie Jones who has a life-limiting condition and needs a new hoist.

The 16-year-old has a condition called Lissencephaly and the hoist will allow her to be moved around the house and help with her ongoing health, care and happiness.

A spokesman for Deeside Round Table said the event went 'amazingly' despite the past chairman Mark Sephton getting a puncture after the first 500yards.

They added: "It shows the true spirit of our community coming together with one common vision and purpose."

Taking to social media, the team thanked everyone for their kind donations and support.

They wrote: "Through a combination of four hours pedal power and the awesome generous energy of you, Deeside, there was an almost endless supply of electricity that generated notes, coins and online donations yesterday morning at Morrisons Connah's Quay. All for the power of good.

"100 per cent of the money donated is getting split between local Connah’s Quay girl Millie who has a life-limiting condition, we’re raising money to buy her a hoist for her home and also raising money for Mind North East Wales to support their work helping people with mental health issues.

"A massive thank you to Mold and Buckley Round Table and Alyn and Deeside XRT 41 Club -Past Round Tablers Club who assisted us with this challenge.

"Big thanks to Lifestyle Fitness for the loan of their static bikes and a tremendous big thank you to the lovely staff of Morrisons Connah's Quay Community for looking after us yet again.

"We all absolutely loved it. From chatting to some of you guys who threw money in our buckets to meeting young Millie who called by, it was amazing to be out and fundraising.

"Unity in the community."
