LUKE YOUNG has signed a new one-year deal keeping him at Wrexham for the 2021-22 National League season.

The midfielder, who arrived at The Racecourse in the summer of 2018 from Torquay United, has penned a one-year contract with a potential additional year, meaning the back-to-back Player of the Season winner will remain with the Reds until at least the summer of 2022.

Young started every league game and was top scorer with 11 goals in 2020-21 to help his side challenge for promotion, earning him the top accolade.

The decision was also taken to award Young the 2019-20 title too, with the 28-year-old enjoying a consistent campaign before it ended early because of the coronavirus pandemic.

On signing his new contract, Young told the official club website: "It was all about weighing up the best option for me, not just in football but as a family as well and there was no better place to stay than here.

"The fans have warmed to me over my three years here and it's made it very welcoming and very good on a personal level on and off the pitch..

"We're settled here, bought a house and committed to the area and I think that just shows the commitment that I've hopefully shown in the last three years that I've been here.

"We'll take the disappointment of missing out by a point last year and try to go one further, that seems to be the vibe about the place and the message that I'm hearing from everybody at the club and it's something that I want to be a part of with the potential to go somewhere and be big. Hopefully it's this season."
