A DOG training school celebrated a milestone with some of its longest standing pupils and their four-legged friends.

Pat and Colin Werner Dog Training School, which runs at Rhydymwyn, Hoole and Wrexham, marked 25 years over the weekend.

To celebrate the occasion - as well as resuming activities after months of covid-19 restrictions, owners Pat and Colin threw a party to welcome back their pupils.

Mrs Werner, of Rhydtalog, said: "We had to shut down last March when the pandemic hit - but we reopened in June or July.

"Then in December it all shut again and we couldn't run anything.

"We've now been fully open again for two weeks and we've had a group which has been with us for the best part of 25 years - they started with us at the beginning and a lot of them have come back with repeat dogs.

"So Saturday was to celebrate our 25 years and to welcome them all back again, because they came to us for training but many of them are friends now."

The event took place at Rhydymwyn memorial institute.

Mrs Werner continued: "It was a lovely day, using the paddock at Rhydymwyn.

"We put a gazebo up and we had tunnels, jumps and games for the dogs.

"We're also going to pay for a new gate on the paddock and we had a collection for that. "We came home with £203 which was fantastic."

Mrs Werner said the training school has been enjoying a new challenge since lockdown was eased - lockdown puppies.

"We've had a special class for the lockdown puppies," she said.

"They are not as young as they should be when they start training and we have had to correct a lot of faults. "But we are very much enjoying helping them and good progress is being made."
