A WREXHAM charity boss spoke of her delight at welcoming a new team member on board.

The Leader reported earlier this week how Andrew Edwards, from Gwersyllt, landed a job at Wrexham-based Autism charity Your Space.

It came after an emotionally challenging year for 36-year-old Mr Edwards, in which he lost his mother Hazel Davies to covid-19 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He also told the Leader last year of his experiences of living in lockdown with autism.

Your Space founder and head of services Rachel Hancocks said: "I am absolutely thrilled to have Andrew on board and have no doubt that he will be a huge asset to our charity in his role as fundraising assistant.

"I have personally known Andrew for a number of years and feel privileged to be part of his future and supporting him to achieve another of his goals."

Following the news about his new job, Mr Edwards said: "[This] is quite a rare achievement as most of those diagnosed with autism are not in paid employment.

"A recent statistic suggests that only 15 per cent of those diagnosed with autism in the UK are in paid employment."

Your Space is a registered charity providing activities and support for people with autism and their families.
