CO-OWNER of Wrexham AFC Rob McElhenney wants to make Wrexham a global force in football.

Speaking to GQ Hype this month, Rob said he and fellow owner Ryan Reynolds have big plans for the club.

Most Wrexham fans would be happy with a return to the Football League - especially after narrowly missing out on a play off place this season.

Others, decades on from the club's glory days, would be happy for the Hollywood pair to simply leave the club in a better place than they found it.

But for Rob, best known as the creator of record breaking sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, taking Wrexham to the top and returning the club's "lost glory" is serious business.

Rob told GQ Hype's Ben Allen that "the truth is that it is an underdog team".

The actor and producer, who says Wrexham reminds him of his home town of Philadelphia, added: "And I think that everybody can understand what it feels to be an underdog.”

When asked about whether a headline saying he planned to get Wrexham to the Premier League was sensationalist, Rob had an answer than will warm the hearts of Reds' fans.

He told GQ Hype: “The only problem with [that headline] is that people will read that and dismiss me as silly and that I'm making a joke, when I actually do believe that, if the goal is to be successful, then what other route do you have? If you continue to win, where else are you heading?

"And I would just leave it at that.

“I want everybody to understand, especially the people of North Wales, that I am going to put everything I am and everything I can into making Wrexham a global force.”

Rob in particular has already formed a good relationship with the Wrexham fans.

At the weekend he tweeted a photo of him with his Wrexham AFC hat on as he prepared to watch the last game of the season from the Los Angeles home he shares with wife and Always Sunny co-star Kaitlin Olsen.

After the game, he tweeted: "To all the players, coaches, staff and supporters of Wrexham AFC: THANK YOU for all of your hard work and dedication.

"This was obviously a disappointing end. BUT we will come back stronger. We will come back better. And next season we will all rise TOGETHER."
