MS for Delyn

Last week I had the opportunity to call in to Theatr Clwyd for a socially distanced visit to see both some of the (suitably creative) COVID 19 measures put in place for reopening and to discuss the exciting plans for the major, multi-million pound redevelopment of the theatre.

The theatre, like many other attractions in our corner of the country, has so much to offer as restrictions ease and sectors safely reopen. With the Bank Holiday weekend approaching, I want to encourage Leader readers to look local at what is on offer close to home here, as we perhaps plan time with friends and family. We have so much on offer and now more than ever should be supporting local businesses, destinations and projects, in the safest way.

I ended the week by joining the millions of others across Wales by receiving my first vaccination at the Deeside Mass Vaccination Centre. The centre has a really impressive set up, with friendly and professional staff and are helping to contribute significantly to our vaccination programme which continues to roll out at pace.

This week I caught up with Plastic Reduction Mold about their work in the community, after two years of helping to tackle plastic pollution in our community. The online event on Tuesday was an event to celebrate some of the great work being done in Mold, Caerwys and Llangollen, where “Naked Takeaways” are being trialled, with reusable tiffin tins being used in place of single-use takeaway cartons.

Spring Clean Cymru takes place from the end of this week until the middle of June, to encourage residents across our communities and across Wales, to help litter-pick a million miles across the UK. The idea is to help keep our communities active and tidy at the same, by committing to litter-pick around four miles each on our doorstep. If 250,000 people do this during the two week period, then over a million miles would be cleared – that’s the distance to the moon, and back!

If you’re interested in getting involved please visit Keep Wales Tidy or Plastic Reduction Mold on Facebook, and I am sure they will be happy to help you get involved.

I am also continuing to deal with issues being raised with me from across the constituency, from the flooding in Ffynnongroyw and need to tackle anti-social behaviour in Holywell and Flint, to transport concerns around active travel options and promoting alternatives transport options.
