A PROPOSAL to expand Chirk’s Kronospan factory site has now gone to public consultation.

Draft plans have been drawn up for the development of a warehouse building at the Kronospan site in Holyhead Road.

The development is proposed for the north-eastern area of the site, and would include ancillary works, and an alteration to the existing bund and existing eastern warehouse.

Planning and environmental consultancy firm AXIS PED Ltd has been commissioned by the wood-panel manufacturer to prepare the planning application.

A statement on the firm’s website regarding the pre-application consultation said: “Prior to the formal submission of the application to the Local Planning Authority (Wrexham County Borough Council), and in accordance with the requirements set out in Part 1A of the Town & Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (Wales) Order 2016, the proposed development must be subject to a pre-application consultation process.

“Relevant drawings, reports and supporting documents that will comprise and support the planning application are available for inspection and review, via the links below, prior to the application being submitted.”

Draft copies of the planning statement and the design and access statement can now be accessed online.

Residents in the town can share their views on the proposed development via the AXIS website.

Chairman of Chirk Town Council, Councillor Brian Colley, highlighted the importance of residents having their say on planning issues.

He said: “I think the community should be involved and should consider the application.

“It is pre-planning and has not come before council yet, but I think the residents should be aware and looking at the application.

“I think it’s very important for people to have their voices heard on matters like this.

“If it goes through planning and is approved, it’s too late thereafter to complain about any disruption to them.

“At pre-planning stage, it is very important to consider the application and make their comments heard.”

Documents related to the application and consultation process can be accessed at https://www.axisped.co.uk/consultations/

Comments can be made by emailing consultations@axisped.co.uk or via a consultation response form which can be accessed on AXIS’ website.

Plans may also be viewed at the reception at Kronospan, Holyhead Road, Chirk, LL14 5NT, from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5pm.

Anyone wishing to put forward their views on the proposed development must submit their comments before the deadline on Thursday, June 17.
