WREXHAM Lager has apologised for traffic disruption earlier today - but it was all in a good cause.

Wrexham Lager was pleased to be despatching a major order of its award-winning lager to Poland - but they didn't expect the driver to bring the articulated lorry cab first into the yard.

It meant that, after the trailer was loaded with 18,000 bottles of both Wrexham Lager and Bootlegger Pilsner, brewery staff had to stop traffic while the driver reversed the lorry out again.

The pick up was another milestone in the Wrexham Lager success story as it is the first major export of the beers into Europe after they both won gold awards in 2020.

In total, Wrexham Lager won six gold medals, two silver and one bronze in 2020, a year that was challenging for all in the brewing industry.

At the Frankfurt International Trophy, where nearly 3,000 beers, wines and spirits are judged, Wrexham Lager won the gold award for best export lager while the Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner, named after Wrexham online favourite Karl Phillips, scooped the gold award for best pilsner lager.

Sales and operations manager Joss Roberts, who introduced the world to the Bootlegger brew, said: We have had interest from countries such as France, Switzerland and now Poland. But but we've unfortunately been held up since winning the golds due to Brexit and covid...until now!

"A company named United Distribitions Holdings in Poland saw our success publicised - they were impressed with the gold medals we have been awarded and also our growth over the last year online. They sampled and loved the beer and have now taken it on to distribute around Poland to convenience stores, retail and supermarkets!

"We hope this is the first of many trading deals concluded and look forward to seeing our lager and pilsners being drunk all over Europe!"

But it didn't go without a slight hiccup.

Joss added: "Finally, today, we had our first artic waggon to come in and take the bottles. To be honest it did cause a bit of chaos at the brewery when he drove straight into the brewery and we had to reverse him out. We just couldn't get him out!

"So we'd like to give an apology from Wrexham Lager for the hold up in traffic!"

Joss added: "It's a massive first deal for us in exporting to Europe and we hope this will kickstart other things."

The bottles are now on route to Poznań before they are distributed to shops all over Poland.
