A WELSH journalist working in America has become the breakout start of a new video trailer starring Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The trailer for the new docu-series Welcome to Wrexham dropped yesterday and people throughout the world are loving it.

In it Ryan and Rob explain how they are the new owners of Wrexham AFC and the series will follow them and the club.

But it is Welsh translator Maxine that steals the show as she "roasts" the Hollywood stars in her native language.

"Our new show on FX is called Welcome to Wrexham - a docu-series centred in Wrexham, a working class town in North Wales in the United Kingdom," says Rob.

Ryan adds: "Earlier this year we became owners of the football club in Wrexham and we thought it was only appropriate for our Welsh fans to have a translator."

Hilarity soon ensues, as Maxine mistranslates Ryan and Rob before given her own opinion of the stars with reads that would make a drag queen blush.

With a deadpan delivery that Twitter users are living for, Maxine says: "The tall skinny one does movies, the muscular one sells cream cheese from Philadelphia, or something."

Before adding: "There's no way these two can manage a football club."

Her comments are delivered in Welsh and subtitled.

Maxine is broadcaster Maxine Hughes, 41, a former BBC News journalist based in Washington DC.

Originally from Conwy, Maxine moved to the USA when she was 17 after winning a football scholarship.

Based in Washington DC where she is raising her young family, her work has seen her travel all over the globe.

She flew to Los Angeles, where Rob McElhenney lives with his wife and two sons, after initially thinking the call for an American-bases Welsh translator was a joke.

She told the BBC: "A few people were sending me a flyer that was asking for Welsh speakers in Hollywood. I thought it was a joke actually."

She could not have expected the outpouring of praise for her performance - including a declaration of love from Hollywood A-lister Hugh Jackman who has a famous long-running "feud" with Deadpool star Reynolds.

But Wolverine has been warned off by Maxine's wife and fellow journalist Sally Ayhan,

Sally tweeted: "My wife @MaxineERHughes roasted @VancityReynolds and @RMcElhenney in this little promo of their new and very brave venture #WelcomeToWrexham.

"I always knew there was a thespian inside that welsh soul of hers dying to break free of journalism!"

Maxine's performance has been praised on social media.

Sharon Mercelsanca tweeted: "She definitely outshone them!"

Debbie Sales tweeted: "Maxine is a legend. Rolling on the floor laughing she nailed it."

Helen on the Radio tweeted: "Stole the show!"

Welcome to Wrexham will chronicle their takeover – the club announced their initial interest in investing in September 2020 – and follow the Red Dragons’ fortunes over the following two seasons.

Welcome to Wrexham will be executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Nick Frenkel and John Henion.

The series is produced by Broadwalk Pictures and UK and world broadcasters will be announced in due course.
