RESIDENTS have been encouraged to report suspicious behaviour following a 'national trend' in catalytic converter thefts from vehicles.

The Leader has reported recently on a number of warnings from police to motorists across Wrexham in connection with the thefts.

Wrexham town inspector Luke Hughes said: "You may have seen that there is a national trend at present in relation to the theft of Catalytic converters.

"This has everything to do with the value of precious metals in “certain” converters and nothing to do with an overall increase in vehicle crime.

"In fact, it’s now virtually unheard of to have your wheels stolen or stereo nicked - something that I dealt with on a daily basis on the streets of Wrexham twenty years ago.

"However we have also been touched by this new trend, although with only a small number thankfully. "I can advise that Honda and Mazda are the cars of choice so if you notice any suspicious behaviour, generally late at night please get in touch."
