NEARLY half of people over 50 in Flintshire have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

Public Health Wales data shows 31,194 people aged 50 and over have been given both doses of a vaccine up to May 2 – 47 per cent of the area's age group.

They make up part of the 59,988 people who have been given at least one jab – 91 per cent of the over-50 population.

Figures on second doses for each age group in Flintshire show:

• 50 to 54 – 1,571 administered (13 per cent)

• 55 to 59 – 1,812 administered (16 per cent)

Across Wales, 774,000 people have had both doses – with 30 per cent of the over-16 population and 1.9 million (72 per cent) have had at least one dose.

This week there was further easing of restrictions in Wales, with gyms and swimming pools reopening.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “The public health situation continues to improve and our vaccination programme remains a success.

“However, the virus has not gone away. We all still need to take those vitally important steps, that we are now all so familiar with, to protect ourselves and each other from this dreadful virus.

“By working together, by following these rules, the quicker we will return to normality. Together, we will continue to keep Wales safe.”

Vaccinations are being given at 546 locations across Wales, including at 360 GPs' surgeries, 41 vaccination centres and 35 hospitals.

• The Welsh Government aims for all adults to have been offered a vaccine by the end of July.
