A LOCKDOWN hero has been congratulated after completing a huge charity challenge.

When lockdown restrictions prevented Chris Jobson from seeing her grandchildren in London, she decided to use the time to put others first and raise money for patient care at Nightingale House Hospice.

Setting herself the target of walking the equivalent of the distance between Land’s End and John o’Groats she has recently completed 874 miles locally and raised more than £1480 for the charity in Wrexham.

Chris started her challenge on October 9 and completed her 874th mile by crossing the bridge at Bangor-on-Dee on April 14.

She said: "I chose Nightingale House as I have seen so many friends and family affected by cancer with some of those needing the services of the hospice.

"When the pandemic struck, I really felt that I needed to do something positive.

"I initially started walking on my own covering an average 30-40 miles per week.

“The support I have had from friends and the community has been incredible.

"The people I have met and the friendships I have made through walking has been amazing.

"I have absolutely loved it and I am so grateful to every person who has either walked with me or donated to my fundraising page.”

Congratulating Chris, fundraiser Bethan Scott from the hospice said: “Chris is an incredible lady.

"I watched her crossing the finish line at Bangor-on-Dee where she was greeted and cheered on by friends and family.

"I could see how much this meant to Chris and the support from her friends, family and local community was evident to see.

"She told me the walking had given her a real purpose and as a result of her challenge, a new walking group has now been set up in the village.

"We think she is an absolute star. Thank you Chris from everyone at Nightingale House Hospice."
