A TEAM of volunteers have gone the extra mile to raise funds for a cause close to their hearts.

Team Red, a group of volunteers based in Penyffordd, decided to sleep rough for the night in a bid to raise funds for the Nightingale House Hospice.

On Friday, April 23 from 8pm until 8am, the volunteers experienced what it was like to sleep rough, with nothing but cardboard boxes and sleeping bags at the Red Lion beer garden.

Julie Jones said: "It went really well, we raised £347 which is really good with everything going on.

"We had a good laugh and it was a good sleep out. At Team Red we are alway doing stuff for local charities and thinking of different ideas all the time.

"One of our volunteers said a sleep out would be a good idea and it went from there.

"Since the start of lockdown we've raised about £30,000 for charities."

The Leader has reported on Team Red's exploits throughout the pandemic, which has included organising memory walks and helping a new local animal rescue centre get off the ground.
