A MAN 33-year-old man has been arrested following an incident at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The Wrexham Maelor hospital was placed under lockdown for more than four hours on Thursday afternoon after reports of a 'suspicious package'.

Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board urged people not to attend their planned appointments and to avoid the site.

North Wales Police confirmed they have since arrested a man following the incident at Wrexham Maelor Hospital earlier today.

Detective Inspector Andrew Gibson said: “The 33-year-old is local to the area. It's not possible to provide further details at present - but there are no wider public safety concerns."

Earlier this evening, a spokesman for the North Wales health board said a search was carried out following 'reports of a suspicious package'. 

They added: "We have worked with North Wales Police to carry out a search, which has now been completed. Access to the hospital is no longer restricted and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
