THE housing market on the North Wales and Cheshire border is 'scarily heated,' according to Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp.

The property expert is currently in the region filming the next series of the popular Channel Four show.

But she says the market in the region is "troubling" at a time when lots of people are living with the economic fallout of Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic.

She tweeted on Wednesday: "Back on the road making L,L,L on the North Wales border, and in Cheshire around Wilmslow. In both places the market is scarily heated. Given the fact that 17% of people are still on furlough and the economic impact of Brexit & Covid is unknown this feels troubling."

Twitter users thanked Kirstie for highlighting the issue, with many concerned that they or their children are not able to afford a home.

One Twitter user said: "Furlough scheme is masking a real-terms increase in unemployment. Housing market is artificially inflated presently by the stamp holiday. People buying now are likely buying at the price peak."

Another tweeted: "Surely there has to be a crash at some point? Our house has gone up 30% in 5 years, it can’t keep climbing. Gov trying to keep prices artificially high with idiotic 5% mortgages. It has to bust soon."

Another added: "I hear this. Husband's colleague put his house on the market Saturday. 16 viewings booked in by end of day Monday. It’ll be sold by the weekend I don’t doubt. Prices here have gone crazy."

Although the Wilmslow area of Cheshire is known as having "footballers' homes" - people pointed out that there were many people priced out of buying a starter or average family home in the current market.

One Twitter user said: "Not everyone here is living in footballer homes. Plenty of ordinary people."

Another said: "We’ve just had an offer accepted on a place in Cheshire. 9 other offers apparently. We’ve looked at over 50 houses in the last year, it’s crazy here."

People on social media said it wasn't just Cheshire and North Wales where the market is heated, with people citing their experiences in Yorkshire, Cornwall and Scotland.

Channel Four is currently airing the 35th series of the programme in which Kirstie and Phil Spencer "help house-hunters find the perfect home in the perfect location".
